The United States Postal Service (USPS) has rolled out its first charging stations for its electric vehicle (EV) delivery fleet.

The agency unveiled the host of EV charging stations at its South Atlanta Sorting and Delivery Center intended to support the electrification of the postal service across the US.

Ford E-Transit vans have been announced to make up an important part of the postal service’s delivery fleet. The postal service has reportedly committed to introduce around 9,250 E-Transits through the end of 2024.

The vans will initially be deployed in Georgia before expanding to other parts of the country throughout the year. The E-Transits to be used by USPS have reportedly three times the cargo capacity of the Grumman LLV delivery vehicles that it currently uses.

In the near future USPS plan to use several more automakers to expand their delivery fleet, with a target deploying more than 66,000 EVs with at least 45,000 of them to be on the roads by 2028.
