These EVs qualify for full discount under new UK subsidy scheme

Following the UK government’s launch of its Electric Car Grant (ECG) scheme on July 15, a list of qualifying vehicles has now been announced. The scheme represents the UK government’s latest effort to reduce the cost of EVs and kickstart economic growth and jobs as part of the Plan for Change.

The two electric vehicles that qualify for the largest discount are the Ford Puma Gen-E and the Ford E-Tourneo Courier. A further 28 models have also been cleared for discount.

Lotus blames Trump’s tariffs for bumper lay-offs

Historic British automaker, Lotus, has announced its plans to lay off around 550 workers from its UK headquarters. The restructuring will impact approximately 40% of the workforce at its Hethel, Norfolk plant.  

Lotus described these measures as a way to bring its business objectives “in line with current market conditions”.

Ford streamlines EV production in “Model T moment”

In a bid to increase EV sales, Ford is investing $5 billion to modernize the way it manufactures electric vehicles. The company plans to ditch the traditional assembly line it pioneered more than 100 years ago, in favour of a more streamlined approach.

By breaking from tradition, Ford hopes to increase efficiency and bring down the cost of its EVs. The automaker says that, with these modernizations, it will be able to manufacture EVs retailing for as low as $30,000.
