Indian electric mobility start-up Vayve Mobility has launched a new electric vehicle (EV) model featuring a solar-powered roof.

The car, dubbed “Eva”, was unveiled at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo but the company has not yet finished development of the compact model.

The two-door EV enables fast-charging, boasting a 50km range with just a 5-minute charge.

Its most-hyped feature is the roof-mounted solar panel. Vayve Mobility offers the solar roof as an option worth 19,999 Indian rupees (223 euros) on the Nova and Stella trims and 24,999 Indian rupees (279 euros) on the Vega trim.

The solar roof allots the EV with up to 10-12 km of additional range and reportedly allows drivers to accumulate up to 3,000 km annually without any charging cost.

The compact design of the Eva means it can only accommodate just three passengers  – a driver in the front and two passengers in the back.

The driver sits in the centre and the passengers access the rear seat from its sides. The space in the back is sufficient only for one adult and a child, not two adults.

However if the rear seat is folded down, it allows 300 litres of cargo space to be utilised.
