The Government of Canada has paused its Zero-Emission Vehicles (iZEV) Program due to the depletion of available funding.
The program was meant to be paused at the end of March, however the funding became “fully committed,” leading to an early halt in the program.
According the Canadian government, the program has supported the purchase of over 546,000 zero-emission vehicles and the zero-emission vehicle market share rose to 14.2% in the first three quarters of 2024.
Customers who have already ordered their EV and received approval for their application to the iZEV program before the announcement will still receive the incentive.
Canadian businesses and organisations purchasing zero-emission trucks can continue to benefit from the Incentives for Medium- and Heavy-Duty Zero-Emission Vehicles (iMHZEV) Program, which remains active until March 31, 2026.
Canadian Minister of Transport and Internal Trade, Anita Anand, said:
“I am delighted to see the success of the iZEV Program. Since 2015, our Government has been committed to building a greener economy and combatting climate change. We will continue to engage with industry, environmental groups, and across jurisdictions to foster collaboration in decarbonizing the country’s transportation sector and becoming a global leader in zero-emission vehicles.”
