In “Driving growth in EV demand”, moderated by Automotive News’ Hannah Lutz, our panellists discussed the critical roadblocks hindering widespread EV adoption in the U.S.

California Energy Commissioner Noemi Gallardo was joined on the Keynote Stage by Rick Wilmer, CEO of Chargepoint, to unpack the ways in which the government and private sector can work more collaboratively toward widespread electrification.

The conversation centred on the importance of a reliable and robust infrastructure strategy as a means to motivate EV adoption, highlighting the need for accessible and high-quality Level 2 and fast-charging infrastructure across disparate geographies, including rural areas.

Both panellists contextualized their insights, drawing attention to the expiration of the EV tax credit alongside the wider industry downturn as the U.S. faces competition from the Chinese market and an increasingly divisive political climate.

Overall, Noemi and Rick agreed on the importance of better EV education as well as the need for greater affordability to successfully accelerate EV adoption in the U.S.

The panel ended with a reflection on the necessity for state governments to remain steadfast in their EV and climate goals as a means to boost consumer confidence in electrification amid a patchwork and inconsistent regulatory environment.
