In “Building the autonomous world”, Tobias Glitterstam, Edwin Olson and Jeremy Bird took to the Keynote Stage to discuss the roadmap to autonomy. The debate centred on innovations in autonomous technology and the key challenges facing the industry in the context of fleet transportation, ride-share services and trucking.
Moderator, David Welch, steered the discussion focusing the conversation on issues of consumer trust, cost, safety, job security and patchwork regulation.
In the context of trucking, the panel explored the possibilities of autonomous vehicles to reduce downtime and to combat the labour shortage in the long-haul trucking industry.
The discussion concluded with a consensus that public opinion remained a significant stumbling block on the road to widespread autonomy.
