Isreali journey planning app Moovit has partnered with California’s Long Beach Transit to provide a single app that supports both public and shared trips with real-time information.

Available for iOS and Android, the free Moovit app combines official information from Long Beach Transit, as well as crowdsourced data to calculate the best route for each journey in Long Beach and beyond, across a range of urban mobility options such as bus, light rail, bikeshare, Uber and Lyft.

The Moovit app provides customers with real-time arrival information, a live directions feature provides step-by-step guidance during a journey including get off alerts, while service alerts can help avoid disruptions.

Moovit also incorporates accessibility features, supporting people across the disability spectrum to use public transport with more confidence. For instance the app is optimized with screen reading features for low vision users, it offers TalkBack and VoiceOver capabilities, identifies wheelchair-accessible and step-free routes and stations.

“The partnership between Long Beach Transit and Moovit will enhance the customer experience and make travel easier,” said Long Beach Transit President and CEO Kenneth A. McDonald. “The partnership addresses a common complaint from customers that they don’t know when their bus will arrive. The Moovit app provides real-time alerts and step-by-step directions to make travel much easier.”

Thousands of Long Beach Transit customers already use the Moovit app and will soon receive service alerts and communication from Long Beach Transit from the app already on their phone.

“Public transit is an essential component of any sustainable urban transportation system,” said Yovav Meydad, Moovit’s chief growth and marketing officer. “Precise trip planning information helps riders avoid delays and reduces waiting times, making public transit more reliable and attractive.”
