General Motors (GM) announced on Monday the appointment of Barak Turovsky as the first Chief Artificial Intelligence (AI) Officer, a newly created job role by the automaker.
Turovsky holds a rich history as former AI head at global tech giants such as Cisco and Google, as well as previous roles at Microsoft, PayPal, SAP and IBM.
In a LinkedIn post, Senior Vice President of Software and Services Engineering at GM, David Richardson, said:
“AI is central to GM’s future, driving everything from our path to autonomy to advancements in manufacturing and dealer processes. To accelerate these efforts, Barak Turovsky is joining General Motors as our first Chief AI Officer. Barak brings deep expertise in developing AI solutions that enhance products, optimise operations, and improve customer experiences.”
The AI expert will reportedly be contributing to the company’s innovation in applying AI to automotive technology.
In a statement Turovsky added that he will be hiring and developing his own team of AI experts at the automaker, within GM’s software and services engineering department.
The automaker will reportedly work with Turovsky to incorporate AI software capabilities into GM’s models. Examples of these applications could be to help locate EV chargers, develop intelligent route planning, advance towards full vehicle autonomy and optimise manufacturing systems.
