Leicester has launched an all-new, free electric bus service. FREE Hop is to be launched on 3rd April 2023, looping the City Centre and serving Haymarket Bus Station, Highcross, Jubilee Square, Leicester Royal Infirmary, Railway Station and the Market.

The new service features fully electric buses to help the city move forward to its net zero targers, fully branded buses, free Wi-Fi and USB charging points.   Other accessible features include passenger information displays, audio-visual announcements, real-time information displays and text-to-speech facilities.  The service will initially run as part of an 18-month trial, which will allow the city to make any changes necessary to improve the service in the future.   The service will be operated by three fully electric midi-buses, which have double doors in the middle to allow for quicker access. The bus has 21 seats plus a dedicated wheelchair space on board. Wheelchair and pushchair users will need to board and alight the bus via the middle double doors.  The main aim of the trial is to provide accessible, sustainable links from bus and rails stations, and main City Centre bus stops to key destinations across the City Centre such as tourist attractions, the hospital, university and colleges, the Market, shops and theatres, stated Leicester buses.  The service will be operated by Centrebus and will be operating every 10 minutes Monday to Saturday from 8am to 6pm.
