Mercedes-Benz Vans, in partnership with Ambulanz Mobile from Schönebeck in the German state of Saxony-Anhalt, has developed a fully electric ambulance based on the eSprinter van.
With a range of 120 km and a top speed of up to 120 km/h, the electrically powered ambulance can operate both within the city and across the greater urban area.
A key design consideration is the electricity supply for the medical equipment operates independently of the base vehicle. The eSprinter body also features a novel weight-saving design giving a gross weight of less than 3.5 tonnes. This means the driver does not need a special licence.
“Just as with our conventionally powered vehicles, the eVans from Mercedes-Benz provide a good basis for sector-specific solutions. I’m pleased that we’ve been able to work together with our partner Ambulanz Mobile to develop an electric vehicle for patient transport applications. Not only will it ensure safe transport of people but it is also locally emission-free,” says Sven Dannenmann, Head of the Application and Bodybuilder Centre at Mercedes-Benz Vans.
