Ottawa becomes the first city in the world to implement Neuron’s new ‘e-scooter brain’ across an entire e-scooter fleet.

Yesterday, Neuron deployed a fleet of e-scooters fully equipped with its most advanced technologies to offer a new way to control how e-scooters are managed in the city.

Neuron has features such as High Accuracy Location Technology, Rapid Geofence Detection and Dangerous Riding Detection which was said to be tested in Ottawa as part of a global trial. Ottawa therefore, will become the first city in the world where Neuron has effectively implemented these solutions across its entire fleet of scooters.

Neuron are now able to provide high accuracy geofencing, designate precise smart parking locations, and also help detect and control sidewalk riding, using this new technology.

Another feature of the new fleet is an Acoustic Vehicle Alerting System which serves as an always-on warning noise that alerts pedestrians, particularly with a lack of vision, which alerts them that a e scooter is approaching.

Last year, Neuron was the first and only e-scooter operator in Canada to launch a multi-month trial of an AVAS technology on over 100 devices in its active fleet. This is now a requirement for all e-scooter operators for the 2022 riding season in Ottawa.

Neuron’s e-scooters launched in 2021 and users travelled more than 240,000 kilometers in Ottawa. This is estimated to have avoided 18 tonnes of CO2 emissions. Seventy-nine percent of riders used their e-scooters to visit restaurants, cafes and to explore the city.
