Geely-backed automaker Polestar is in search of new non-Chinese suppliers for its electric vehicle (EV) software.
The Swedish carmaker’s cry for help comes after the United States (U.S.) government announced an incoming ban on Chinese components in American connected vehicles.
The move was justified by the U.S. Secretary of Commerce, Gina Raimondo, who said the Chinese software ban intends to “safeguard U.S. national security and protect Americans’ privacy by keeping foreign adversaries from manipulating these technologies to access sensitive or personal information.”
Despite more troubles after new American President Donald Trump announced a reversal of Biden’s EV policies, Polestar’s CEO, Michael Lohscheller, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to continue expanding in the U.S.
“We have a manufacturing facility in the US. We are creating American jobs. We will and have to find solutions because the US is a big growth market for us,” Lohscheller told the FT.
Polestar was founded by Chinese car giant Geely alongside Volvo, which was acquired by Geely in 2010.
