On Thursday, Tesla CEO Elon Musk revealed the automaker’s long-awaited and extremely hyped autonomous vehicle – dubbed the “Cybercab”.

Musk unveiled the brand-new electric vehicle (EV) dedicated to autonomous driving at Tesla’s extremely hyped-up “We, Robot” event. The event took place at the Warner Bros. film lot in Burbank, California.

After years of set-backs and extended deadlines, the robotaxi has been revealed. The model is a purpose-built autonomous vehicle featuring no steering wheel or driver pedals with a unique design.

The Tesla CEO said: “It will save lives, a lot of lives, and prevent injuries. I think we’ll see autonomous cars become ten times safer than a human,”

The vehicle’s composition aims to eradicate the need for a human driver or supervisor whilst the car autonomously operates.

The “Cybercab” was demoed on the Warner Bros. film lot using its non-public roads to showcase the model’s autonomous driving features.

Musk pitched the new vehicle as a time-saving invention: “Think about the cumulative time that people spend in a car,” he said, “and the time they will get back that they can now spend on their books or watching a movie or doing work or whatever.”

He even pitched the idea of falling asleep in the driverless vehicle and waking up at your intended destination safely – stressing the reliability and safety of the vehicle’s driving.

The “Cybercab” is expected to reach production in 2026 – which could extend to as late as 2027 – and will reportedly be sold for less than $30,000.
